Carlsson diesel power for the E 280 CDI

Carlsson has developed the CD28 on the basis of the current E Class with 2.8 l CDI engine. The complete package combines sophisticated technology with exciting design. At the heart of the modifications made by Carlsson's engineers is the CD28 C-Tronic® performance kit for the new engine of the E 280 CDI.

• 215 bhp and a top speed of 240 km/h
• 19" aluminium wheels in timeless 16-spoke design
• Comprehensive design package

The C-Tronic® supplementary control unit developed by Carlsson is plugged onto the original engine control unit using the original plug-in contacts. The 36-pin plug operates on the plug-and-play principle and uses all necessary signals from the standard control unit to ensure optimum fuel quantities and the correct point of injection. Fitting the Carlsson C-Tronic® boosts engine output from the standard 177 to 215 bhp. Torque jumps from 425 to 520 Nm while maximum speed climbs from 228 to 240 km/h. The Carlsson CD28 completes the standing start from 0 to 100 km/h in just 8.0 seconds, i.e., 1.3 seconds faster than the standard model.

C-Tronic® performance kits for cars with soot-particle filters beat today's strict emission standards by approximately 60 % and the new Euro 4 standard by about 10 %. In the case of models fitted with a soot-particle filter, the quantity of particles emitted is barely measurable. Results such as this are only possible if important data from the particle filter, e.g., exhaust backpressure and temperature, can be integrated into the engine-control system.

Safety reserves were also important for Carlsson's engineers when they developed the C-Tronic® for the E 280 CDI. Thus, the C-Tronic® monitors the cooling-water temperature and generates the extra power only when the temperature is between 65°C and 105°C. Moreover, two microprocessors ensure that the optimum settings are used regardless of the operating conditions. Given so much integrated safety, a comprehensive warranty is a matter of course. Thus, Carlsson gives a guarantee of 36 months and max. 100,000 km from date of installation on all original Carlsson parts. Naturally, the statutory guarantee period of 24 months or 100,000 km from the date of initial registration continues to apply to the engine, transmission and differential after such engine modifications.

The significant difference
Carlsson also underscores its role as a trendsetter for automotive design by developing products for motoring enthusiasts, as shown in particular by the design of the Carlsson 1/16 Brilliant Edition wheels. Timelessly elegant and unparalleled in the Mercedes tuning segment, these light-alloy wheels are genuine head-turners thanks to their 16 brilliant silver painted spokes and brilliant polished outer rim. The Carlsson CD28 is fitted with the dimension 8.5 x 19" and 245/35 Dunlop SP Sport 9000 tyres at the front and the dimension 10 x 19" and 285/30 Dunlop SP Sport 9000 tyres at the back.

Dynamic handling
The Carlsson sports suspension system consisting of four Carlsson competition springs and four Carlsson gas shock absorbers has been developed especially for the E Class. Lowering the centre of gravity has significant impact on the car's dynamics and results in more precise handling and less vehicle movement. Alternatively, Carlsson also offers a sports lowering kit consisting of four Carlsson competition springs. For vehicles with 'Airmatic', Carlsson can supply the tried and tested C-Tronic® lowering system.

Elegant lines
The front of the Carlsson CD28 has been given a noticeably more sporting look with an RS front-spoiler lip and a front apron with an electro-polished stainless-steel grille. Rounding off the overall picture are an under-floor wing coupled with a stainless-steel grille and the Carlsson rear spoiler. Besides the undisputedly elegant appearance, these Carlsson aerodynamic parts also offer technical benefits such as an improved flow of cooling air and a reduction in overall lift.

Seeing and hearing
Without doubt, one of the highlights of the CD28 – for passers-by, too – is the sports rear silencer with four oval tailpipes. Made fully of stainless steel, the Carlsson end silencer is distinguished not only by an unforgettable sound and first-class workmanship but also an improved gas flow, which results in a reduction in backpressure and, therefore, a higher power output. The double-oval tailpipes are streamlined and, thanks to their double-skinned design, heat insulating, which stops heat discolouration and keeps the accumulation of soot on the outside to a minimum.

A fine ambience with first-class materials
A glance inside the car shows clearly why the Carlsson CD28 sets new standards in its class. Here, leather and wood are the most important styling elements whereby the combination of colours is oriented towards the owner's personal preferences. Thus, the gear-lever knob, steering wheel, armrest, roof lining, dashboard and doors can be covered in this fine material. A host of accessories rounds off the elaborate range of fitments for the interior.
