Chevy HHR modifications at SEMA 2005

Chevy's new runaway hit, the HHR, pays homage to the past, the 1949 Suburban. Both the HHR and the Chevy Cobalt feature GM's little engine that can, the Ecotec.

The Ecotec 2.2-liter four-cylinder engine is GM's first truly global powerplant. In production trim, it delivers exceptional fuel economy and low exhaust emissions in a reliable, low-maintenance package. In racing trim, it can deliver more than 1,000 horsepower – even when using a majority of production parts.

The HHR was designed to be a blank canvas for imaginative customizers and tuners, and it is already living up to its mission. It will be featured in a number of configurations, including:

  • The HHR Concept, which takes styling to new heights. The four doors of the production HHR are replaced by two doors that have been stretched 6 inches for style and functionality. Up front, the HHR Concept features a new hood, a new eggcrate grille with chrome surrounds and new front fascia with polished billet air ducts. The windshield header has been dropped 4 inches for a chopped look, and the track is 2 inches wider up front and a full 4 inches in back
  • The HHR Open Air show car that delivers open air to the first- and second-row seats with a panoramic, five-panel, electronically operated glass roof and other modifications
  • The HHR Tuner Panel, in which the rear doors and quarter glass have been covered with aluminum panels, giving the HHR the look of a panel truck and providing an added level of security to HHR’s 63.1 cubic feet of cargo capacity (with the rear seats removed). A new grille, front and rear fascias and rocker treatment complete the look

A GM Accessories-dressed HHR will be on the show floor; other tuner interpretations of the HHR come from Unique Performance, Darkside, Yearone and PTeazer.
