Essen 2005: The new Carlsson experience (Based on the R 500)

Unlike any other vehicle new or old, the R Class combines a variety of automobile concepts, such as estate car, van, sports saloon and SUV, to create a special character all of its own. Now, thanks to the tuning and customising measures taken by Carlsson, the R 500 exudes even greater individuality and uniqueness.

'R-ster' with the Carlsson CM 50 K performance kit
The fact that this 'spaceship' needs plenty of power is apparent at first glance. In other words, there is a lot of weight to be moved. Hence, drivers of the new R 500 will certainly appreciate the power boost to 430 bhp/316kW at 6000 1/min. According to Carlsson, maximum torque of 650 Nm is generated from 2800 to 4800 rpm. This increase in power is achieved by fitting the Carlsson supercharger system developed in close cooperation with Ogura Clutch Co. Ltd. The advantages of the high-performance supercharger, which is made under licence from Wankel, are high efficiency, smooth, low-wear operation, long service life, immediate response and low weight.

3/11 Ultra Light series wheels
The new Carlsson 3/11 Ultra Light wheel was shown for the first time at the Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA). The forged, 3-part, 11-spoke wheel has been designed especially with larger vehicles in mind. Forged wheels of the Ultra Light series are significantly lighter than conventional cast wheels offering the same degree of strength. Due to their lower weight, they tend to tramp less (lower unsprung weight) and thus ensure optimum road contact. For the driver, this means improved handling and greater ride comfort.

A comparable cast standard wheel is around 50 % heavier than a Carlsson forged wheel. In Essen, visitors can admire the new wheel design in the dimension 11x23“ (front and rear axles) with a 315/25 ZR23 tyre.

The new 1/11 Brilliant Edition wheel design
An excellent alternative to the 3/11 Ultra Light wheel design is the new 1/11 Brilliant Edition wheel design that is being shown for the first time in Essen. The cast, one-piece, 11-spoke aluminium wheel has been designed especially for the new Mercedes-Benz models and harmonises perfectly with their modern lines without changing the independent character of the car. Unique is the surface finish of the new wheel. The brilliant paintwork of the centre piece forms an attractive contrast to the highly polished rim base and, in this combination, is unique in the field of Mercedes-Benz tuning. In Essen, the 1/11 BE can be seen in the dimension 9.5x20“ (front and rear axles) fitted with a Dunlop SP Sport Maxx 295/40 ZR20 tyre.

Intelligent lowering: Carlsson C-Tronic® SUSPENSION
The CK50 has been lowered using the new C-Tronic® SUSPENSION supplementary control unit. Besides giving it a more dynamic air, lowering the car by approx. 30 mm reduces roll and thus results in even more precise handling.

Stainless-steel rear silencers each with twin oval tail pipes
The rear view of the CM50 K is dominated by the Carlsson sports rear silencers with four tail pipes, which impress not only through a sonorous and muscular sound but also, thanks to an improvement over the standard system in terms of exhaust back pressure and pipe routing, through greater low-end torque.

More than just good looks: the Carlsson aerodynamic kit
The Carlsson aerodynamic kit for the CM50 K includes an easily fitted front-spoiler lit and the new Carlsson rear-apron insert. All components of this small 'package' form the ideal basis for the R Class driver who wants improved handling and a more sporting appearance for the biggest automobile in the Mercedes-Benz range. This is achieved by the optimum interaction of the individual components that bring about a noticeable reduction in lift on the R Class.

Space with superior interior appointments
The new R Class offers the driver and passengers plenty of space in which to feel at home. On-road exclusivity is provided by Carlsson leather appointments, which come in a variety of colour and leather combinations. And, with the ergonomic Carlsson sports leather steering wheel in leather / leather, even the longest journey is sure to be unadulterated driving pleasure.
